Up

In 2009, Up was one of the best movies ever. Although it is an animation film, adults and children alike will love this movie. The movie tells of an old man, Carl, who finally decides to set off to South America to fulfill his and his wife's dream. Unknowingly, he brings along with him a young partner, in the form of a Boy Scout called Russell. As they travel and aim to reach their ultimate destination, they face various challenges and also face danger.

Up also has the honour of being the first movie to be nominated for both the Academy Awards (Oscars) for Best Picture and Best Animated Feature Film in 2010. Subsequently, it won the Best Animated Feature Film award and another award for Music (Original Score).

How to Train a Dragon

In 2010 there was another great animation movie, titled How to Train a Dragon. This movie was based on a book by Cressida Cowell. It tells the story of how Hiccup, a young Viking boy grows up and matures into a man. He gains the respect of his fellow tribe members and most importantly recognition from this own father. This character also stands out because there are many lessons which we can learn from him.

Finding Nemo

Similar to Up, Finding Nemo is also an award-winning movie as it won the Oscars for the Best Animated Feature Film in 2004. Besides gaining approval from award voters, it was also hugely popular among the public. It even led to a craze for clown fish. The story tells of Nemo, a clown fish, who is separated from his father due to an incident. In search of his son, Marlin, ends up on a journey of his life travelling from the Great Barrier Reef all the way to the Sydney Harbour. During his journey he meets with both friends and foes like forgetful Dory and the vicious sharks.

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a classic from Disney. Most people are familiar with the story of how Belle (the Beauty) and the Prince (who was turned into an ugly-looking beast) falls in love with one another. Besides the great storyline which also teaches us to look beyond the surface and to not judge by appearances, the film also offers a great soundtrack with songs such as "Beauty and the Beast" by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson, and "Be Our Guest". Although it did not win an Oscar, it did win the Golden Globe for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy).

Finding Nemo is a favourite of mine as well! Still, the Lion King will remain in my heart forever, no matter what other animated movies come about. :)

Good Hub.

Thanks for your input! I liked Lion King too among the older animation movies but there's just too many to list so I had to restrict it to this shortlist =)
