My Sister's Keeper: Books that made me.....

Cry

Recently, there was a movie called My Sister's Keeper. When I realised that it was based on a book by Jodi Picoult I went to the library to search for it.

As expected, the book did not disappoint me. It had all the drama that I expected and most importantly, it made me think about many issues which familes deal with. Without giving away too much of the storyline, it is about a teenage girl who is sueing her parents for the rights to her body.

To understand why she even needs to do so, you would need to understand why she was born in the first place. Any problems dealing with family relationships are always complex and hard to solve. It is the people closest to us who can hurt us the hardest. At the same time, despite the problems we have, we cannot break of the blood ties.

Therefore, this book is so heart-wrenchingly painful to read. If you put yourself in the shoes of the main character, Anna, you will feel so much pain for her that it is impossible not to cry. Many times, I actually cried when reading. So, if you are someone who cries when reading books, bring out the tissues for this book.

Twist At the End

As this books reaches the end, there is a twist. As with all mysteries, it is best left unraveled when you read the book yourself. Personally, I did not anticipate the twist and hence the impact was great.

Whatever and however the book ends, it is still worth a read for the compelling characters which Jodi Picoult has weaved into this book, My Sister's Keeper.

Have you read the book?

I really loved the BOOK. Then I saw the movie and it was going pretty well for me until the end. While a lot of people, including my mother were all emotional about it, I wanted to yell "that's not how it's supposed to happen!"

I was appalled at first but, honestly, it was a great movie. Great actors and actresses. Very believable.

I still love the book better.

Thanks for commenting. That's the usual feedback. Most books which are made into movies turn out not as good, with the exception of Lord of the Rings (in my opinion!)

I cried too when I read My Sister's Keeper. The twist burned me bad. As a writer, I see why it happened. I didn't watch the movie though. I already had a picture of the people in the book. I don't want a movie changing my view.
